Gan Yisheng, secretary-general of the Communist Party of
China's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, answers questions after a
news conference in Beijing September 26, 2006. China has dispatched eight groups
of inspectors across the country to investigate the misconduct of senior
government officials and leaders of large financial institutions in a renewed
campaign to promote government transparency, Gan said on Tuesday. Former party
chief of Shanghai Chen Liangyu, who is under investigation by the Party's
disciplinary watchdog, will be punished severely according to relevant laws and
regulations if found guilty, Xinhua News agency reported. [China Daily]
