More than 80 couples from across the country participated in a wife-carrying competition last Saturday, in Huaying, Sichuan Province.

Starting at 10:30 am, husbands or boyfriends carried their better halves 300 m before climbing Huaying Mountain, known as "love mountain" locally.

All the participants managed the climb in 40 minutes. Visitors said it was a demonstration of love and strength.

Organizers said they would hold an international wife-carrying competition in the future.
