More pets of residents in Tianjin Municipality are getting obese, fatty livers and diabetes from the lack of exercise and rich diet that comes with a luxurious lifestyle.

A dog even had a kilogram of stones removed from its kidney as a result of eating livers fed by its owner, a woman surnamed Ma. Wang Jingmin, a vet who did the operation over the weekend, said: "I've performed similar operations on more than 10 pets in recent weeks."

He reminded owners to feed their pets responsibly and exercise them often.

A survey by local media found more than 40 percent of the pets getting treatment in 20 pet hospitals in the Hexi District suffered from fatty livers, while 8 percent had diabetes.
