More than 63 percent of about 8,000 netizens in a recent poll objected to a ban on dating between teachers and students in a university.

The survey on the Wuhan University of Science and Technology move drew 7,848 Internet votes by the end of Sunday.

Only 27 percent of those polled agreed to the ban while the rest refused to comment on the issue.The university was one of the first in the mainland requiring its teachers last week to sign a special contract promising not to date their students at the campus. At least 97 professors and teachers have signed the contract in the capital of Hubei Province. The controversial move aims to protect the interest of the students and the reputation of the university.
