A middle-aged man surnamed Hu, from Xiamen, Fujian Province, cut off his finger on Sunday for beating his wife the night before.

Hu reportedly fought with his wife in a drunken stupor and beat her.

He felt guilt about the abuse the next morning and sliced off his index finger.

He was sent to hospital for treatment by his wife - who said she did not blame him for the night before.
