The former manager of a famous street market will face prosecution for selling fake luxury goods, the Beijing Times reported Tuesday.

Wang Zili, former manager at Beijing's famed Xiushui market, also known as Silk Street Market, will stand trial soon.

Wang, detained in northern Hohhot city last year, was charged with selling counterfeit luxury products and taking bribes. Wang's right-hand man, Zu Shaozhong, security chief at the business street, was also arrested on the same charges.

The duo also extorted protection money from commercial tenants, the newspaper said.
