Salute to Salud

Tapas, hot house wines and live musical performances make Salud worthy of salute.

Two Frenchmen founded the nightspot last summer and Europhilic influences shine through in the place's menu and dcor.

International and local music fans pack Salud to bob their heads for Wednesday jazz nights and weekend improvised jam sessions.

Punters can sip 10 varieties of the spiced wine fermented in enormous glass jugs behind the bar. The nightspot also offers cocktails from 30 yuan ($4.40) and nine beers, including four Belgian varieties, for between 15 and 40 yuan ($2.20-5.80). A free plate of tasty tapas comes with orders of drafts.

Salud features a marvelous mezzanine, the northernmost section of which can only be accessed by crossing a narrow bridge. From this loft, servers shout drink orders to bartenders, who then hoist beverages up to wait staff on the second floor, saving them from having to negotiate the crowds or stairs.
