The flavors of Mexico in Beijing

Located in downtown Beijing, Peter's Tex Mex is an oasis of western food in the middle of a "Zhongguo fan" desert. While the name boasts its Tex Mex specialties, Peter's offers everything from burritos to turkey sandwiches, as well as an extensive drink menu.

The atmosphere is just what the doctor ordered for homesick Americans, with English menus, decorations that would fit right in at your grandmother's home, and a soundtrack playing Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American." The Mexican tiling on the tables and saloon style double doors brings one right back to that special little Mexican joint in Everytown, USA.

The only drawback regarding the atmosphere is the children's area, located right in the middle of the restaurant, where kids are able to roam, and make noise, freely. That being said, the children's area is convenient for parents looking for a little more space, although they may not be out of earshot.

The important part for most diners, however, is the quality of the food. There is no doubt about the drastic differences between Chinese food in America, and Chinese food in China, so how does this translate to Mexican food? At Peter's, it translates quite accurately. From portions to texture to flavor, Peters' provides an authentic representation of what is expected from a similar style restaurant in the US. For completely reasonable prices, one can get a burrito, sandwich, or steak with side dishes that fill the plate, just like back in the states.
