Wudaokou is a small area in Haidian, Beijing's academic district, which was once the centre of the city¡¯s rock scene. It lost its pioneering glamour over the last decade as most rock clubs relocated to commercial districts. But two relatively new clubs, D-22 and Club 13, have helped to revive the area's rock spirit.

D-22 has performances most nights, and has become a place for musicians and artists to practice and workshop their work. On August 26th, John Myers, an American composer and conductor, will perform here. He is known for his innovative work with Glenn Branca, a New York musician, and often conducts Mr Branca's ¡°Symphony No.13, Hallucination City¡±, which involves 80 electric guitars and 20 bass guitars. Every Thursday the club hosts the ¡°1+¡± series, organised by Yan Jun, a music critic, which shines a spotlight on local performers.
