It is a great decision that China has signed an agreement for a space program
with Russia. The cooperation will be of mutual benefit.

Domestic violence
Comment on the story "Domestic violence against children rising" (China
Daily, March 27)
Shelter for the child victims of domestic violence may be a short-term
measure. What the provincial government should do is to set up more counseling
centers where parents could go and consult with psychologists as to how to deal
with the situation.
Spanking the child or subjecting him to severe punishment will do more harm
than good. Parents need more patience.
A child will grow up to be a complete individual if he is treated with love
and care.

What women want
Comments on the story "What women want: Self-fulfillment" (China Daily, March
27)
In China's ancient legends, man and woman were created by the deity Nuwa.
Her initial idea may have been to set man and woman in equal positions. They
would have the same opportunities to use society's resources and to achieve
their aims in life.
Power, money, sex are all neutral things in the real world. In different
periods of human history, they are considered positive or negative.
So just follow your own feelings.

Firstly I figure the word "fulfillment" as defined by doctor Li is blurred.
So-called fulfillment makes the distinction between love, sex, and social
standing. Fulfillment frankly comprises all of the above, even a kid knows that.
Secondly, in my experience women do not place love first, especially in urban
China, where they are more independent and tough. However this doesn't mean they
want to be like this.
Nowadays the pressure of life is increasing. Women have to master their own
destiny. So existence first, love second.

As self-fulfillment ranks the highest in Maslow's "Hierarchy of Need Theory",
what the survey concluded is really remarkable progress for the whole society,
not only for women.
I think everyone in the world should reach self-fulfillment, so they will not
regret their lives when they leave the world.
