Happy customer
Comment on You Nuo's column "Exporters, it's time to clean up your act" (China Daily, August 6)
Some small businessmen in China have not yet learned a fundamental lesson of good business: "A happy customer will always return."
These businessmen obviously don't care if the customer returns or not, as long as they get his money now.
It is a very bad business logic.

'Education initiative'
Comment on Li Xing's column "Free children from stigmas associated with diseases" (China Daily, August 2)
Thank you for thoughtful comments on this issue, Li Xing. We in the States still struggle so much in our attempts not to stigmatize those with HIV and/or any other number of conditions.
We are showing some hope in many isolated areas where previously a student such as the one cited in your example can now find a greater sense of inclusion.
In the States I think we often make the mistake of presenting things as "education" - whenever you tell a group of people that fear something like AIDS that they are going to get "educated" by the government, they lose trust and confidence.
If individuals take a little initiative here and there, people begin to see something less preachy and more informative and take small steps to including others - in other words, they get "educated" but of their own humanity.

High quality needed
Comment on "Weapons R&D gets guideline" (China Daily, August 7)
Setting up 50:50 joint venture companies with developed countries to manufacture weaponry, transportation vehicles and high tech products could be a good thing. With stringent reporting guidelines both in terms of security and finance, such companies will thrive.
China has an urgent need to develop products of high quality, high technology with internationally acclaimed brand names that are in demand.
Otherwise, it will remain an international backyard of manufacturing house of low quality and low technology that is easily replaceable.

Cherish traditions
Comment on "In China, fame comes easier with a foreign face" (China Daily website, August 1)
More and more people in China have adopted Western names, Western holidays and customs while forgetting their own cultural identity, traditions and history.
It's also a great big shame of them to destroy so many cultural relics and buildings in the pursuit of Western-style development.

Comment on "China to keep inflation in check" (China Daily website, August 6)
The price index must accord with the level of wages. I found that our real purchase ability was decreasing.
