More than money

Comment on "Olympics also a great marketing forum" (China Daily, August 7)

According to China Daily on August 7, "Beijing Olympics could generate revenue of about $3 billion, that is, twice as much as the last Games in Athens." What we benefit from the 2008 Olympic Games is far more than the revenue.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games functions as a window of displaying Beijing. It also refreshes the common people with Olympic knowledge and culture.

Most importantly, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will show the world a unique sporting event with Chinese characteristics. The Games' fundamental themes are "Green Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics and People's Olympics". They are a way of unifying the Chinese and the Olympic Games' civilization.

The 2008 Games is also drawing the whole world's attention on Beijing's profound change and on China's brilliant culture, bringing great influence on China's economy, culture, art, media and education.

English instructions

"Made in China" should not be a stigma for poor quality goods. My perception is that there is a lack of operating and safety instructions/manuals in English.

Even goods that do have English instructions/manuals, the English used sometimes is so "Chinglish".

This leads to consumers using their purchases by "trial and error", resulting in premature failure and wastage. Come on, business, invest in some proper translation that will lead to goods being used safely and properly.

Protectionism

Comment on "Paulson warns lawmakers on China bills" (China Daily website, August 8)

Regardless of US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's warnings, protectionist sentiment is hard to stop in the US. This is a key issue in the upcoming presidential election.

People who make money in the stock market around the world should be concerned about this issue.
