Check foreign goods

Comment on "Quality labeling aims to curb illegal food exports" (China Daily, August 23)

China's domestic consumers and users have to be protected from poor quality foreign goods, too.

While foreigners have made Chinese and non-Chinese believe that Chinese products are of poor quality, everyone should also be aware of poor quality foreign goods. And there are plenty around, not just soybeans.

With some Western media waging a war on Chinese products, foreigners now have more reason to be prejudiced against the Chinese and think they can export more inferior products to China and get away with it.

I know of old or reconditioned equipment from the United States and Europe being exported as new to China.

There are many instances of equipment from these countries failing to work the first time; in the trade they are referred to as DOA - Dead On Arrival. The Chinese authorities should investigate further.

Social price to rise

Comment on "Gender imbalance linked to serious social ills" (China Daily, August 23)

No need to worry. In the market economy price varies according to supply and demand.

As the shortage of women increases, their social price will rise and parents will no longer abort the female fetus. Actually, China may become a women's paradise!

Friendly support

Comment on "SCO vows to make Beijing Games a success" (China Daily, August 23)

Only in the way in which nations support and understand each other can the world stay peaceful and develop. I'm sure all friendly countries will support our Olympics.

Solar energy

Comment on "Multinationals blacklisted for pollution" (China Daily, August 21)

I agree with you about exposing the multinational companies that pollute the environment, but some China companies pollute as well.

My joint venture business in Beijing relates to solar thermal energy and heat pumps to show how the two together can provide hot water and heating 24 hours a day.

As a designer of solar collectors, I have educated many China companies, who now are suppliers. I see this as very important if the Made-in-China name is to grow strong.

Forgotten factor

Comment on Raymond Zhou's column "Principle or prejudice?" (China Daily, August 18)

Thank you for writing such a fantastic editorial.

But you wrote, "with tens of millions more men than women in the country, gays can rectify the gender imbalance in their small way".

But are not you forgetting lesbians? Assuming that gays and lesbians account for about the same percentage, then that nullifies your point.
