Broad cooperation
Comment on "Consensus reached on energy, green tech" (China Daily, August 28)
Welcome to Chancellor Merkel and congratulations to the leaders of these two great nations for achieving such broad cooperation on some of the more urgent issues of our times.
German technology can be utilized to solve China's pollution problem. China's active participation in the solution of environmental issues will benefit not just these two partners, but also the whole world.
Germany has become such a positive force in the world since WWII, unlike some of its former allies.
Welcome, congrats

Comment on "Producers put under close watch" (China Daily, August 28)
It is important for children to play with toys, so toy safety is a top priority.
The Chinese and US governments should discuss which country's standard should be used.

Be polite, please
Comment on Raymond Zhou's column "Applaud or not, that is the question" (China Daily, August 25)
I have to admit that some Chinese people show little enthusiasm toward public displays. It even borders on numbness sometimes.
Therefore most of the audience won't applaud unless reminded or requested to do so.
As for those noise-making instruments, I think they should never appear at a concert.

Low-cost policies
Comment on Liu Shinan's column "Hassle over defective cell phone" (China Daily, August 22)
I think the problem is not necessarily with Motorola or Phillips as a whole, but with their Chinese sales divisions. When I return a phone in the US, they take it back with a "no questions asked" policy.
I know my own company is more concerned about keeping costs down in China than in other countries and regions, so perhaps this pressure for companies to keep costs so low in China forces them to adopt these policies.

Huge losses
Comment on You Nuo's column "Exporters, it's time to clean up your act" (China Daily, August 6)
As many responsible industrial and associated exporting agencies are fully aware, any products produced in China that cause ill effects or indeed, concerns, to their customers, can result not only in a loss of hard-won reputation for the supplier concerned, but more to the point, huge financial losses resulting from litigation.
These factors cannot be ignored by China.
