Control the CPI

Comment on "Inflation to surpass 3% for full year" (China Daily, August 30)

We hope that the central bank will take steps to keep the CPI stable. Products' prices are very important for the general public.

It would be a source of instability in the country if prices always increased.

Labor conditions

Comment on "Toymakers angered by claims of labor abuse" (China Daily, August 30)

The article mentioned quoted one expert as saying "workers are totally free to choose their employment".

However, if they leave, where can they go? There aren't any other jobs.

We shouldn't deny that the cost of Chinese workers is cheap.

Last impression

Comment on You Nuo's column "Confronted by contrast in Chongqing" (China Daily, August 30)

I am a visitor and I think that Chongqing is an interesting and exciting city.

I agree about the airport. The facilities are great, no problems there, and airline staff are always helpful, but I have experienced issues like those you mentioned. Departure gates constantly change, but the changes are not posted on the screens, and there are many flight delays.

Some people hold on to their last impression of a place, so I think it is important to address these issues.

Block secession

Comment on "US opposes Taiwan's UN membership referendum" (China Daily website, August 29)

As a Chinese citizen, I wish for all the best and peaceful development for China and for this region.

No military conflicts!

However, if Chen Shui-bian and his like try to secede from China, we must be well prepared to do what has to be done.

Subway expansion

Beijing has been stepping up its efforts to build more subway lines to prepare for the 2008 Olympic Games.

What confuses me is that if we were not hosting the Games, would the government still pay the same attention to the subway lines?

Let us hope the traffic in Beijing can be greatly eased at an early time.
