Safety matters

Comments on "Firms closed down in food safety inspection"

(China Daily, September 25)

Ten people were arrested and more than 100 companies were closed down, but this is just the tip of the iceberg.

We wonder whether any of the people involved with the companies in question ever dealt with "corrupt" officials who offered "conveniences" to their companies.

A thorough investigation must be undertaken.

These people must be punished severely. On the other hand, tackling bribery and corruption involving government officials and slick businessman is important. This is what allows unsafe food to be sold. The government should establish a strict oversight process and a comprehensive supervision system. Many people have lost their consciences in the pursuit of money.

We are all victims of food insecurity. We hope that the government will punish bad food manufacturers.

Fair is fair

Comment on "Ahmadinejad: Iran nuclear issue in IAEA hands" (China Daily, September 26)

I think the only way to create peace for the Middle East and the world is open and honest information in the media and the efforts of caring citizens. Remember, when you point your finger at other people, you have four fingers pointing at yourself.

Living responsibly

Comment on "Climate change hits China's poor hardest" (China Daily, September 26)

Fighting global warming is an urgent task. Everybody should be responsible for it. Poor people are innocent victims of the effects of climate change. They create the least emissions and pollutants, but they suffer the worst when disaster strikes. Government officials should set a good sample for civilians by curbing the use of public vehicles for private purposes.
