Climate concerns

Comments on "Climate change hits China's poor hardest" (China Daily, September 27)

We are numb to reports about climate change. And the situation shows no signs of improving. People should be made more aware of the need to protect the environment. Everyone must be committed to fighting climate change.

Local environmental authorities need to do more to curb the deterioration of the environment. Some pollutant-prone factories should be shut down without mercy.

We need to enhance social accountability. Many developed countries are calling for "moral consumption". We must not rob our children of their own green space.

Private vehicles create problems not just involving climate change, but also traffic.

The central government should be responsible for the situation. And some measures and proposals must be formulated to prevent private vehicles from choking our roads.

Live and let live

Comment on "85-year-old Nobel laureate Yang: 'Young wife makes me younger'"

(China Daily web, September 25)

Marriage is between two people. It might be unusual for an 82-year-old to marry a 28-year-old, but that is their business, and they have hurt no one. Don't stand on high ground and sit in judgment of others, showing your "high morals", which could well be a hidden form of sanctimonious hypocrisy.
