Over crowded hospitals, chronic shortages of nursing staff and after-care. When will people stop and think, engage the brain and see how much it costs to bring up a child.

How many people outside of your family even care what year a child is born.

Just to have a baby is being lucky, not many have that chance.

South Korea is also following the trend of having more babies in the year of the pig as the country's birth rate has decreased in recent years.

Vietnam is full of golden pig pregnant women too. I have never seen such a high proportion of pregnant women. The trend is also discernable in Singapore.

It is said that to have babies in the year of the pig is popular in most Asian countries .

Peace-maker role

Comments on "China to play major role in Korean peace" (China Daily, October 10)

Indeed a very responsible statement and constructive policy spelled out with regard to peace-making and stability in the two Koreas.

Obviously China is encouraged by the overwhelming and positive response from the international community pertaining to the country's role in resolving outstanding political issues in Asia.
