New leaders welcomed

Comments on "Hu Jintao, top CPC leaders meet the press" (China Daily web, October 22)

It is great to see the new faces of the Chinese leadership. Both Li Keqiang and Xi Jinping are global-minded. Both of them have a Ph.D degree. Li even speaks fluent English. I am quite sure they will lead China into a new era.

Glad to hear that Hu Jintao remains the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee. And I am also happy to see that Li Keqiang, a younger elite, has been elected as a member of the Political Bureau's Standing Committee.

As Hu said, we should always hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, follow the guidance of the Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents, and thoroughly apply the scientific outlook on development. That is the key to success.

Glad that Li Keqiang and Xi Jinping were elected to the inner core of the CPC leadership. Both men have demonstrated their determination in promoting economic development and grassroots democracy. I hope they will hold true to their cause by doing more practical work that will benefit the general masses in the next five years or more.

The newly-elected Central Committee of the CPC fits with the new trend of China's modern and socialist development and will lead China to prosperity and stability.

Relatively younger officials, such as Li Keqiang and Xi Jinping will breathe new life into the leadership hierarchy and we do believe that they are capable of maintaining the stability of the country.

Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang and other new leaders are more inclined to reform and opening up to the world, to keep on strengthening China's economy and raising the stature of the great nation. I hope they can learn from Hu and Wen and work together "hand in hand". I also hope China's politics can be more open and democratic, in which the general public and the media can play a larger role.

I am very concerned about the development of China, especially the consistency of the Chinese government's policies. China and the United States are closely related to each other. Hu and Wen are smart, practical and gentle, which make them two popular leaders of a country as vast as China. I am confident of China's economic growth in the next few years.
