Exam woes

Comment on Kang Bing's column "Time to revisit the exam system" (China Daily, November 2)

I couldn't agree more with Mr Kang's ideas about the examination system. It's high time to reform it.

I'm a teacher, and it troubles me to see students spending long hours studying, day and night, especially middle school students. They have no choice but to study desperately. Does the practice benefit their minds and bodies?

I suggest we evaluate students by both their average performance at school (80 percent) and the entrance examination to college (20 percent).

This is an exciting piece of news. The nuclear power plant will provide more job opportunities to the locality and develop the local economy.

What about smoking?

Comment on "Body fat has strong link to cancer, report warns" (China Daily, November 1)

I was curious why you never listed smoking as a major cause of cancer? It has been clearly documented that smoking is a major cause of cancer in both males and females. Was this not mentioned in the report?
