Comment on "Trade bills 'may harm' Sino-US ties" (China Daily, December 10)

To achieve mutual benefits, the two sides should try to cooperate more. Only one side's efforts are useless.

Coal mine disasters

Comment on "State team to probe coal mine disaster" (China Daily, December 10)

In my opinion, there are two important reasons why coal mine disasters continue to happen.

First, the punishment of people who are responsible for these accidents is not severe enough to stop them pursuing profits illegally.

Second, some local officials give protection to illegal coal mines.

Some people get fired. Some will be put in jail. It is the same old story.

The problem is that the authorities should not only mete out punishment after a coal mine disaster, but also do more to prevent such disasters happening.

Useless research

Comment on Raymond Zhou's column "Entertainer disguised as an academic" (China Daily, December 8)

I feel it is ridiculous for a professor to do such meaningless research. How awful.

Look at what some of our "respectable professors" are doing now.

Evolving problem

Comment on "Beijing's population to top 21.4m by 2020" (China Daily, December 10)

Beijing's population has been increasing in recent years. We should pay more attention to this problem as it also gives rice to other problems such as traffic congestion.
