Fighting smoking
Comment on "Smoking control hindered by realities" (China Daily, December 17)
This article is a realistic commentary about people's ignorance - not just in China, but worldwide.
Can't people figure out another way to spend their extra money instead of killing themselves while smoking? Go to a movie, go dancing, buy some cosmetics, buy some new clothing, go on a trip!
There are SO many reasons for NOT smoking.

It's fair to ban smoking in any public place where people who don't smoke may suffer from what's called second-hand smoke. But putting such a ban in place will take more than a single day. The key step to be taken at present is to increase people's awareness of the smoking ban and block the channels through which cigarette manufacturers from abroad pour their products into the Chinese market, which they believe is the biggest in the world.
It's widely believed that these manufacturers targeted Asia, especially China, as key a overseas markets almost twenty years ago.
So the smoking ban should be a joint effort on an international footing!
