Athletes deserve to compete

It is a shame that some people have chosen to use their political beliefs to try to stop thousands of young athletes from around the world from competing in the Olympic Games. It is their time to compete, and they deserve that honor.

How many of the protesters have ever been to China? They should deal with the problems in their own country first before they resort to finger-pointing.

I extend my best wishes to every athlete participating in the Games and everyone who is involved in the Games. I consider every one of these people a winner.

It is not about Tibet, human rights, or even the Olympics. The pro-Tibet independence activists think it is the best time for them to disrupt the Beijing Olympic Games.

But there are two things that I can bet on: China will celebrate the best-ever Olympics, and history will prove what those "independence activists" say is garbage.

No matter what they say and what they do, life will go on and the world will continue to develop.

It is apparent that the actions of those protesters to disrupt the torch relay are organized and funded by some foreign groups.

The continuous efforts by these groups to curb China's development are not rational. We will resolutely fight against such vicious schemes.

As the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is around the corner, people at home and abroad are starting to pay more attention to it.

Everything is difficult at the start. The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is the first to be held in China. The West should not ignore the great efforts of the Chinese people.

To enhance mutual understanding is essential for a successful Games.

The very fact that the world is focusing and talking about Tibet is one of the aims of the organized violence. It is a worldwide organized disturbance to cause mischief and embarrassment when the Beijing Olympic Games is just months away.

The Dalai Lama has been repeatedly invited to come back to China for negotiations. However, he chooses to stay overseas but sends his "people" all over the place to voice unsubstantiated complaints and untrue statements about cultural genocide and oppression.

As a French national, I am ashamed and angry by the actions of the ignorant if not stupid people to douse the Olympic flame - the symbol of the sporting spirit and peace.

Sports bring different people together. We must help China in its Olympian task to bring the world together.
