Cabbie sentenced for fleeing murder scene

A woman cab driver from Shenyang, Liaoning, was sentenced to three years in prison with a three-year reprieve last week for harboring two suspects in a murder case. The two are accused of killing a bicyclist while defending the cabbie.

Driving the two suspets in her taxi on November 15, 2006, Fang struck the bicyclist, slightly injuring him. She then got into an argument with him. Coming to her defense, the two passengers are accused of stabbing the bicyclist to death.

Instead of calling police, Fang drove the two suspects away from the murder scene.

Red hair triggers all-night fight

A 51-year-old man from Chifeng, in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, quarreled with his wife last Thursday night over his red hair. The new look was the result of the wrong color hair dye from a shop assistant the day before.

Seeing his red hair, his wife teased him for being shameless at his age. This set off a fight lasting till dawn.

With the help of a local consumers association, the man, surnamed Guo, was doubly compensated by the shop for the salesgirl's mistake.

New Guinness record for rope skipping

Guinness authenticators have approved a new world record for a rope skipping event in Changsha, Hunan Province, last Thursday.

A total of 3,009 people skipped rope together on the city's Huangpo Road, a local pedestrian street, starting at 8:30 am and lasting for more than three minutes. The event was organized by a local television station to celebrate its 15th anniversary. Participants ranged in age from 10 to 68. The previous Guinness record was created in Hong Kong when a total of 2,472 people skipped rope together on January 23, 2005.

'Beibei Pig' cartoons make marriage attractive

A newlywed housewife in Shanghai has unexpectedly won wide popularity on the Internet with her series of cartoons based on her family life.

The woman, known as "Beibei Pig" on the Internet, quit her job then spent her time drawing cartoons after she was married last September.

Last month her blog cartoon series attracted more than 100,000 hits. Some cyber portals even offered to buy the copyright to the cartoons. Many viewers said they wanted to get married after viewing the cartoons.
