Microsoft is receiving substantial pushback against Windows Vista. Resistance is strong enough that InfoWorld Executive Editor Galen Gruman has launched a "Save Windows XP" online petition that has received more than 100,000 responses.

微软近来接到大量对于Windows Vista系统的抵制意见。因抵制意见很广泛，“信息世界”的主编盖伦ž格鲁曼发起了一个“拯救Windows XP”的网络请愿活动，目前已得到10万多人响应。

该报道中，petition 指a formally drawn request, often bearing the names of a number of those making the request, that is addressed to a person or group of persons in authority or power, soliciting some favor, right, mercy, or other benefit，一般译为“请愿，申请，祈求”或者“请愿书，陈情书”，比如：petition for divorce（离婚申请），petition for naturalization（入籍申请），petition for appeal（起诉状）等。Petition也可以用作动词，表示“请求，向…请愿”的意思。

例如：

She petitioned her neighbor to turn down the radio.

她请求邻居把收音机关小点声。

We're petitioning for our right to keep a school in our village.

我们为在村中保留一所学校的权利进行请愿。
