Police pull drunken love test swimmer from mud

"If you really love me, jump in the river and swim around."

"Sure, no problem."

This was the tone of the patter between two tiddly lovers sitting on a riverbank on Friday night in Yunxian county, Yunnan province.

The young man, true to his word, stripped off, jumped into the river and swam some 200 m from the bank, but then got stuck in the mud on the riverbed.

His girlfriend called the local police hotline when she heard his calls for help, and one hour later the young man was safe.
