Beijing's newest microbrew pub is 700 years in the making: the 1308 suffix denotes the year when the Bavarian brewers began plying their trade, and the time it took for its beer to reach the capital has certainly been worth the wait.

The three beers-lager, dark and wheat -are all brewed onsite using ingredients imported from the fatherland, which are combined under the expert eye of a Bavarian brew-master. Such attention to detail is immediately noticeable in the taste (and price: RMB 46-108) of the beers.

The bar itself is huge, comfortably housing 500 souls over three floors and a roof garden. The decoration is styled in keeping with traditional beer halls: wooden paneling, retro advertisements and copper brewing vats. A nice touch is the two suits of armor and costumed waitstaff that remind of the brewer's history. This huge pub also serves food prepared by a German chef to accompany your drinking. For those disinclined to sample the beers, a full range of other drinks, from soft to spirits, are available. A great location, pub atmosphere and superb beer combine to make this Beijing's best microbrewery yet, especially with half price beer during the daily happy hour from 5-7pm.
