D5: Shigatse-->Ngamring(5220m above sea level; Distance:
160km) Drive 6 or 7 hours to Ngamring and visit Shakya monastery.
D6: Ngamring-->Saga(4280 m above sea level; Distance: 190 km) Drive
across a plain surrounded by the spectacular Himalayan ranges then ascend to a
pass and drop abruptly down along the Yarlung Tsangpo.After seven or eight hours
of driving, arrive at Saga.
D7: Saga-->Zhongba-->Paryang(4750m above sea level; Distance:
250km) Leave Saga and drive 145km to Zhongba. This trip can be finished in
four to five hours, as the road between is good. But the lay of the land becomes
bumpy from Zhongba onwards but the views en route are amazing. Arrive at Paryang
in four hours.
D8: Paryang-->Lake Mansarovar (4560 m above sea level; Distance:
260km) It is a long journey from Paryang to Lake Mansarovar, more than ten
hours. Mayum la Pass(4600m above sea level) adds to the difficulty of this trip,
but the panoramic views from the Himalayas make it worth it.
D9: Lake
Mansarovar-->Darchen(4560m above sea level; Distance: 30km) Drive north.
After 30km arrive at Darchen and the 'Divine Mountain' - Kailash (6714m above
sea level). Visit Darchen Gon Monastery which belongs to the Drukpa sect.
Prepare for the upcoming Kora pilgrimage around Kailash ( A famous and divine
pilgrimage activity in Tibet). Explore for the next three days.
D10:
Kailash-->Diraphuk( Distance: six hours' hike) The three-day circuit trek
of Mt. Kailash begins today. Hike to Kailash and climb up to a cairn at 4730m
above sea level. En route visit Tarboche and enjoy the local cultures. Then walk
to Diraphuk. Stay overnight in Diraphuk.
D11: Diraphuk-->Zurtrulphuk(4790m above sea level; Distance: 22km) Walk
across Drolma la pass(5630m above sea level) and by Lake Gauri Kund(5608m above
sea level). After six hours of hiking, arrive at Zurtrulphuk. Stay overnight in
Zurtrulphuk.
D12: Darchen-->Tirdapuri Hike two or three hours down to the Barga
plain and finish the three-day trek here. Then drive to Tirdapuri, as the Kora
Pilgrimage of Mt. Kailash is not complete without visiting Tirdapuri's Tibetan
Buddhists.
