To enjoy shopping in Tibet, here we have compiled a list of shopping
venues in different parts of Tibet.
In Lhasa
Lhasa has two commercial centers, the traditional Barkhor Street, and the new
Duosenge Lu. Barkhor Street hosts more than 120 handicrafts shops and more than
200 stalls. It is always rather busy throughout the year except for the 15 days
around the Tibetan New Year.
1. Ozark Specialty Shop Specializing in brand mountaineering and trekking
gear, including apparel, backpacks, shoes, gloves, glasses and other
accessories. Some of them are very expensive.

2. Barkhor Thangka Gallery Specializing in various exquisite Thangkas
(Tibetan scroll painting). The shopkeeper can speak both Chinese and English.
Interested tourists can learn how to make Thangkas for free.

3. Lagang Clothes Shop Specializing in exotic products like apparel,
footwear, hats and cosmetics imported from Nepal and India at affordable prices.

4. Xiamao Gabu Antique Shop An old shop with a history of more than 70
years specializing in various metal Buddha figures of different ages. A large
collection of Nepalese custom-made goods can also be found here.

5. Tourist Shopping Mall Specializing in travel supplies and various other
goods. Location: East end of Yuthok Lu
6. Fontainebleau Gallery Specializing in the works of famous Tibetan
painters including oil paintings, carvings, and sketches. Also available are
Tibetan books.
Location: Inside the Norbu Lingka Park gate.
In other parts of Tibet
Shigatse is well known for its handicraft industry. The two best places
to buy handicrafts are Gyantse, crowned as the "City of Tibetan Carpets", and
the small, beautiful village of Jiaxijiecai.
In Shigatse
tourists can find meticulously made Tibetan knives decorated with delicate
silver handles. Normally Tibetan knives are priced around RMB 100 each and are
available in scenic spots and fairs.
