Dine in other parts of Tibet

The Ngari diet consists mainly of cheese, cow hooves, acidophilus milk and ghee. It tastes a bit salty and sour, but helps people get adapted to the cold climate of Tibet. Having dinner in Ngari is expensive. A bowl of noodles costs 10 RMB. There are several Xinjiang restaurants opened by locals at Shiquanhe Town. However, due to the poor conditions along the way to Ngari, tourists should probably take along some food.

Shigatse boasts several local dishes such as Tibetan sausage, highland barley wine and yak butter shapu (smashed meat). All these dishes can be found in the night fair near the bus station. Recommended restaurants:

Crowned as "the Jiangnan of Tibet", Nyingchi differs from the rest of Tibet for its abundance of fruits and is famous for its local delicacies. Nyingchi's most special dish is luoba, or grilled mountain rats. Due to the humid climate of Nyingchi, a lot of the food uses hot chili. Recommended restaurants are the Tan Family's Dish, the Sichuan Restaurant on the eastern part of Shenzhen Avenue and the Red Mansion next to the public security office.

Food in Lhokha differs from that of the rest of Tibet because of its Sichuan influence. A good place to try is Jinhe restaurant. Typical delicacies of Jinhe Restaurant are chicken and camel meat. Besides Sichuan food, Jinhe also provides western food like steak, pizza and fried chicken as well as Tibetan food.
