Zhou played with great confidence and in the first set, the burgeoning Chinese only gave Kumiko one chance to hold her serve, winning the last five games in a row.

Kumiko tried hard to stop Zhou in the second set, but she only managed to gain two games. During the one hour, 18 minutes match, the 16-year-old Zhou converted four out of sixteen breaking points to clinch her biggest ever victory.

"Generally, I am satisfied with my performance. Because I am young I do not have much pressure in my mind, which is very helpful for me to concentrate on the matches," said Zhou, who defeated four seeded players, including the top three seeds en route to winning the title.

"Zhou is a very young player with great potential. Maybe she will be the next promising star of China," Kumiko said after the match.

In the doubles final, top ranked Ji Chunmei/Sun Shengnan of China beat countrywomen Liang Chen/Zhao Yijing 6-2, 6-3.
