STOCKHOLM - Olympic triple jump champion Christian Olsson plans to miss the indoor season in order to recover from thigh surgery and be fit for the 2008 Beijing Games, Swedish public television SVT reported on Wednesday.

"I don't want to leave anything to chance," the Swede said in an interview with SVT.
"The way things look right now, the indoor season isn't important. I think I am going to skip it in order not to risk anything ahead of the Olympics. The Olympics has to be the priority."
The highlight of the indoor season is the world championships in Valencia in March.
Since winning the 2004 Olympic gold in Athens, Olsson has been plagued by injuries. He missed out on defending his title at the 2005 world championships in Helsinki.
The 27-year-old won European gold on home ground in Gothenburg last year but pulled out of August's world championships in Osaka because of the thigh problem.
Olsson added that he intended to carry on competing until the 2012 Olympics in London.
"I believe that if I can stay injury free during three or four years, there is still a lot of things I can develop."
