No smoking(China Daily)Updated: 2007-01-09 07:18 Hong Kong has truly set a good example for its neighbors as well as countries around the world by enforcing a law against smoking. Being a travel buff, I still think Hong Kong will remain the preferred destination for mainland tourists. The smoking ban will not pose a serious problem for the heavy smokers since smoking is still allowed in some places. Tour guides will tell smokers where smoking is permitted. The ban will ensure a cleaner environment and promote Hong Kong's image as an international financial center. Even if a sizeable portion of the tourists are smokers, there are also travellers who are non-smokers. The measures will be a welcome relief for all. At a time when pollution is a major problem for the world, the smoking ban will attract more tourists who will flock to the city to see how a city could do the impossible. And, no doubt, this will enhance Hong Kong's global image. Anonymous Hong Kong (China Daily 01/09/2007 page11) |
