Don't press China

Washington should not press Beijing too hard on the issue of liberalizing the yuan since the latter, understandably, would not be likely to appease other countries at the cost of its own interests.

As the world is becoming increasingly interdependent, the prosperity and stability of China, whose population occupies almost one fifth of that of the world, is important to the whole world as well.

I understand China's stance on taking a gradual pace of economic reform.
