Stimulating domestic consumption
For most people, this seems rather like a joke: Xing Pu, a member of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee, proposed last month that the government, fresh from a hefty increase in financial revenue, hand out 1,000 yuan ($142) to each citizen as a subsidy against soaring inflation.


Property boom is here to stay
I flew back to Beijing at the end of a business trip on a clear night last November. As my plane descended, I looked out the window, and what I saw was truly spectacular: Countless well-lit buildings sprawled out in every direction for as far as my eyes could see.
