30 killed in accident in Uganda (AP) Updated: 2006-07-31 19:31 KAMPALA, Uganda - A minibus that was speeding
collided with a fuel truck in eastern Uganda, killing 30 people, a senior police
officer said Monday.
All but one of the 25 people in the minibus died instantly in the crash late
Sunday near Kitega village, about 25 miles east of the capital, Kampala, said
James Wakholi, local traffic police chief. A 2-year-old child survived, he said.
Another five people suffocated from fuel fumes after jumping into a drain
with other villagers to try to collect the fuel that had spilled from the truck,
Wakholi said. Police had to fire into the air to disperse the villagers.
The fuel truck did not explode, he said.
