CAIRO - Fourteen people were killed and 20 injured when two minibuses collided on a road southwest of the Egyptian capital Cairo on Wednesday, police sources said.

The accident took place at around dawn on the desert highway which runs parallel to the Nile Valley, they said.

Reckless driving and the poor condition of roads are responsible for many road crashes in Egypt. Dozens of people have been killed in a recent spate of rail and road crashes.
