Warsaw -- New Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk Friday announced that his country would try to improve its relationships with Germany and Russia.

He made the overture while outlining the foreign policy of the new government.

Tusk said Poland hopes to develop the strategic relationship with Germany without avoiding the difficulties existing in bilateral ties.

The Polish-German relationship is of great significance, however, the principle of prudence, equality and amity should be followed, the prime minister said.

He also said Poland would like to resume dialogue with Russia.

"The lack of dialogue between the two countries is detrimental to bilateral interests," Tusk said.

On the possible deployment of the US anti-missile shield in Poland, Tusk said his government is ready to have consultations with NATO and some neighboring countries before a new discussion with the US

"The Polish government understands clearly the political and military meaning of an anti-missile base in Poland," said the prime minister.

Tusk also expressed wishes to have dialogue and cooperation with China, India and Brazil.

In the parliamentary elections on October 21, the Civic Platform headed by Tusk defeated the ruling Law and Justice party and became the biggest party in the Sejm (the lower house of parliament) holding 209 out of the 460 seats. The coalition government of the Civic Platform and the Polish Peasant's Party led by Tusk was sworn in on November 16.
