The TV station said the bombs exploded in a parking lot. It did not identify the town or city where the attacks occurred.

Police could not immediately be reached for comment.

The British military, which turned responsibility for security in Maysan over to Iraqi authorities in April, said it was not immediately aware of any bomb attacks in the province but was checking the report.

Tensions have been high across mainly Shi'ite southern Iraq, where rival factions are battling for influence in the oil-rich region as British forces draw down.
