Strong earthquake jolts northeastern Japan

TOKYO - A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 jolted northeastern Japan's Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures Monday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The epicenter of the 8:30 p.m. (1100GMT) quake was about 30 km under the seabed in the Pacific off Fukushima Prefecture.

No tsunami warning was issued. No injuries were reported following the quake.
